Good design and materials, works well, one gripe: not anywhere close to secure; tip it and it leaks - the seal around the drinking hole doesn't close securely enough. However, perfect for use at work, and this way I can drink loose leaf tea on camping trips much more easily.
Keeps the grounds out and the extra coffee hot. Not so. Especially if you are partial to pressed coffee. I keep one of these at work and I make the coffee in it and then pour it through a tea strainer into my mug. They have had daily use for a month and still in like new shape. The one downside is adding cream and sugar to the travel mug. You can add syrup to the grounds first as well.
I tried adding powdered creamer and sugar to the coffee grounds before brewing; worked fine. Didn't make any difference in the pressing or the taste. You do get a few grounds, but that's true with just about any press. It's made of mostly plastic so I thought the first time I poured boiling water in it it would crack. I have two of these, this one and the one with the insulated rubber ring. It helps if you wait a few minutes after pressing to take your first sip.
Once the coffee is made you have to add it through the drinking opening. Great little mug for coffee on the go. This press works pretty well. Both cups are insulated and will keep coffee hot for an hour or so. Tricky, especially for sugar and powdered creamer.
Now it's just: boil water, pour into travel mug and GO. Before it was: boil water, pour over coffee in french press, wait a few mins, transfer coffee to travel mug, clean out press, THEN go to work. We love them. My husband and I received one of these as a wedding gift, and liked it so much that we gave them to his parents as a thank you gift. It makes it easier to take coffee to work with you. This is a real time-saver and makes it so there are less dishes to clean overall.
It's simply not worth the few dollars I thought I would save. I never, *ever* had a cup of coffee without getting a mouth full of grinds - from first sip to last. Never again. I love coffee presses, and have owned several in the past without complaint (except the other Bodum) but I'll never purchase one from Bodum again. The idea of a portable coffee press appealed to me, and it's still a great idea, but this is the last Bodum product I will ever purchase. I owned one before, and thought that perhaps I'd bought a defective product because other people claimed that theirs worked well, so I thought I would give them another try. It didn't matter how coarse the grounds were, or how carefully I attempted to make the coffee.
All in all, I'd buy this one again. It makes a really good cup of coffee and I can leave the house with it, less dishes. I don't drink a lot of coffee anymore but I know what a good cup of coffee is. I've had several different small single cup coffee makers and this one by far is the coolest and best. Surprisingly it keeps the coffee warmer than other self contained travel presses I've had.
